What a surprise! I just saw a turkey on my neighbor's roof!! It jumped a
bit across the roof, flew down to the sidewalk and went merrily on his way
    down the street.
Location: Mission San Jose, Fremont, Palm Avenue near the 680 overpass

    Hi all,
As it turns out, I've saved turkey messages from this group in a folder
since Johan Langweis reported some just downhill from Skyline Blvd. on Oct
21, 2001. I was interested because it was not far from where I walked with
my dogs pretty much daily starting in fall of 1986, and I hadn't seen them
around there, though I knew they were frequently sighted east of there in
Contra Costa and Alameda counties. I have about 90 messages in this folder.
In the spring and summer of 2002 several people reported them in the
vicinity of Tilden, El Cerrito, San Leandro near Lk. Chabot, and Sibley
regional park. In October 2002 there were several Berkeley reports. Of
special interest to me was the appearance of turkeys at Mills College (where
I work) and their successful breeding there. Scattered reports have
continued since then, many in locations that would have to be considered
    urban.
    Good birding to all,
    John Harris
    Oakland/Oakdale

Good points. As an Oaklander myself, I tend to be a bit Oakland centric. The
"East Bay" is a big place, and my statement was overly broad.

Still, it wasn't until after John first mentioned them on this list (I don't
remember the date exactly) that I started seeing and hearing them in Oakland
myself, in the hills behind my house and in various Oakland urban areas. I
have seen them in Marin and along the north coast and Sierra foothills for
    years...

Somebody on this list must know the date of the first verified wild turkey
    sighting for urban Oakland...?
