I didn't pay much attention when I heard they were seen in the more 
outlying areas of Contra Costa and Alameda Counties, but in Berkeley 
and Oakland, they just seemed so incongruous. Of course they may have 
been here in former eras.

Along with the new populations of hawks and crows, plus the 
disappearance of quails, they mark a distinctive difference in the 
local bird population in my immediate area (lower Panoramic Hill) in 
recent decades.
