    Dear Birding Friends:

Last week I rediscovered Vollmer Peak, a lovely area in Tilden Park that I would like to visit regularly. It's high and wild up there with sweeping views in all directions with several distinct microclimates depending on the orientation of the slope. As the highest point in the Berkeley Hills, Vollmer Peak gets more rain, and more important lots of fog drip in the summer which supports one of the few healthy groves of planted Monterey Pines in the East Bay. For wildflower lovers, in a grassy field Nemophilas (baby blue eyes) are coming into bloom.

I would like to hear from some birders who 'bird' in the area, as to what I should be looking for. I recall last year reading on 'Sightings' that MacGillivray's Warblers nested there and occasional Hermit Warblers passed through.

    I'd appreciate more information.
