Ed Tanovitz and I walked Nimitz Way off Inspiration Point in Tilden today with hopes of seeing the California Thrashers that had been reported.  No luck, but at Rotary Grove Ed spotted this Nuthatch excavating a nest in a dead tree.

The tree is right at the entrance to the grove and is a single trunk about 20 feet tall. The Nuthatch was hollowing the tree about five feet down from the top.
