I was lucky to spot a Wrentit today without really trying. I had stopped to view a hummingbird in another tree when the Wrentit popped, apparently to say hello (or so I'd like to think). Since this was only the 3rd one I've ever spotted & the 1st that I'd seen since '04, I feel fquite ortunate. Later I heard him calling out from somewhere in the brush, as if to confirm my sighting.

Also jockeying for space in the tree were a California Towhee & a Golden-crowned Sparrow. I'm surprised the sparrow hasn't left for his Alaskan feeding grounds yet. On the top of a large bush was an Anna's Hummingbird. I never did get to spot the first hummingbird, but was definitely smaller than the Anna's. Perhaps it was a migrating Calliope?
