    Hi E. B. Birders,

Yesterday, on Mount Diablo, while leading my Birding by Ear class for Albany Adult School, we saw our first pair of Western Kingbirds for the spring season.? This was about 1000 ft. elevation.? At this stop we also had singing House Wren, Golden Eagle fly over, a pair of copulating Turkey Vultures, and one "dear" note from a Rufous-crowned Sparrow.? Just above the junction the weather turned nasty, and few birds were seen.

We met for this trip at Heather Farm, where we had great a opportunity to study the calls of at least ten Northern Rough-winged Swallows.

After class last Thursday night, I had a Cliff Swallow singing from the old nest outside my front door until at least 11:00 pm.? No vocalizations or activity since that night, so it must have moved on.?
According to Birds of North America Online, the Twitter-squeak Song at night from the nest is common.

    All the Best Birding,
