    Speaking of cowbirds, last August I observed on several occasions in my 
    backyard, a Brown Towhee "mothering" (trying to feed) an immature, but 
    larger, Brown-headed Cowbird.  I felt sorry for the poor Towhee having been 
    fooled so blatantly by the "pirate" cowbird which was never satsified.

    P.S. I didn't realize Brown-headed Cowbirds were relatively uncommon here in 
    the winter. I probably saw 2-3 dozen yesteray.
