[EBB Sightings] Alameda/Contra Costa Co Big Year Celebration 1/13/09

To the birders of EBB:

For the final conclusion of the bi-county Big Year, Golden Gate  
Audubon has graciously offered to host a celebratory evening of good  
company, finger food, and bird tales. It will be held Tuesday,  
January 13, at the Northbrae Community Church, 941 The Alameda,  
Berkeley, at 7 p.m. After-dinner savory snacks and desserts will be  
provided, and you are encouraged to bring the beverage of your choice  
(including alcohol). Please RSVP to Pat Bacchetti at bacpab at comcast.net.

Come hear how 22 intrepid birders braved obsessive thoughts, long  
drives, near misses, and agonizing moral decisions about whether that  
momentary glimpse of head or hint of song was enough to put a bird on  
The List. Hear about the trail-blazing discoveries and crushing  
defeats; the strategies successful or not; and the shared moments of  
joy or sorrow. Some motivated birders did both Alameda and Contra  
Costa Counties--a true test of will. Bob Power will present a slide  
show of the notable birds seen, and the winners will be recognized  
and congratulated. We will also be able to thank Bob Power and Denise  
Wight for providing inspiration and Bob Lewis for tracking the  
results on his website.
