On December 31 I paid a visit to Berkeley Aquatic Park looking for the waterthrush in its customary scuzzy habitat. It never showed, but I found a Virginia Rail in the same area poking around in the low shrubbery at the water's edge.
There was also a male hooded merganser in the main pond near the boat house pier.
