    Hi all:

A late Kaiser appt. made Lake Merritt too tantalizing.
1 Common Merganser, male. A first for me at the Lake. Snoozing betw. the islands at the east end of the lake.
1 Tufted Duck, male. Tufts barely discernable. This is rhetorical, but am I the only one who has been fooled into thinking they could run around the southeastern corner of the lake to get a better look at the Tufted Duck only to find the invisible fence materialize, cutting off all access? And super-rhetorical, am I the only one to have done this twice in the last month?

The Scaup on the lake at the east end were agitated by something and moving around the lake en masse. Not flying like a raptor might get them to do, but swimming in a big group. I expected to find kayakers or a sailboat or something at the east end, but there was nothing I could tell that got them moving. Anaconda? The movement is similar to how the ducks react at Rodeo Lagoon when the River Otters are doing their Gull and Pelican hunting.

    Good birding,
