Wanting to be careful about the use of the EEB list serve, on behalf of Audubon California and Mt. Diablo Audubon, I want to thank East Bay Birders who have an interest in the actions being taken by the Rossmoor Homeowners Associations to kill Acorn Woodpeckers. We are working to pressure the USFWS to withdraw the depredation permit that the USFWS issued knowing this is an unworkable solution. Audubon has met with and offered assistance to the Homeowners Associations, and while we had hoped they were prepared to work with us, it is untenable for us to work with them while they pursue taking Acorn Woodpeckers.

I would urge all to sign our petition at:

    http://audubonaction.org/campaign/woodpeckers_revoke_permit/83exsed4vexwxj8?

    And make phone calls:

Let Rossmoor know you they should work with local Audubon representatives on a non-lethal solution: (925) 988-7712.

Call the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and tell them you want Rossmoor's permit (MB164975-1) revoked: (916) 414-6464.

Ask local Member of Congress Ellen Tauscher to pressure the Service on the permit: (925) 932-8899.

Thanks for your help, and now back to looking for great birds.
