    Greetings EastBayBirders -.

I nominate Art Edward for the 2008 Understatement of the Year award, when he
     wrote:

"Let's just say this spot hasn't become any more family oriented as time has
gone by, even with cold temperatures and light rain. Fortunately the
waterthrush called loudly for about a minute and I managed a few quick glimpses
    before deciding enough was enough."

Fact is that the section of Aquatic Park where the Waterthrush has been
sighted is INFESTED with men trolling for casual partners, and more recently with
what appear to be individuals who are buying and selling drugs. What this
poor Waterthrush has witnessed you don't want to know or imagine. If you must
go there to see the Waterthrush, go with a small group that stays close
together, and one that include at least one strong and fearsome looking individual
skilled in martial arts. Frankly, I advise staying in the open areas and
enjoying the lovely waterbirds. Berkeley should be ashamed for looking the other
way and failing to police this long-standing and intolerable nuisance.

    Respectfully, Len Blumin
