This morning on Patterson Rd before the toll booth there was a Golden eagle
sitting in the road-side tower to the right. We parked just below the tower
and were able to walk about right below the bird. He seemed huge--I've never
been that close to one. And completely unphased by us or by the dog-walkers
and bicyclists that passed underneath. I don't know if it was the same bird
or a second one, but we turned off Bayview Trail and went up on Red Hill
Trail and a Golden eagle was flying from one set of rocks to another. I've
never seen a Golden at Coyote before. Is it unusual? What did seem unusual
was the complete lack of other raptors. No kites, no kestrels, and no
    redtails within the park boundary.

We also got a good look at a Gray fox who stared at us and then ran for
    cover.
