This morning around 11:30, my friend and I found three winter wrens at Joaquin Miller Park near a downed tree just a little bit down the Fern Ravine Trail from the Sequoia arena picnic area off Skyline near Chabot Space & Science Center.

Next, we found pine siskins in the trees along Park Hills Road in the Berkeley Hills.

Finally, we walked out the Berkeley Pier at about 3:30 PM in downright balmy, glorious weather. About halfway out on the north side we found two pelagic cormorants and a common loon. No Brandt's cormorants today. It struck me that tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of the Cosco Busan oil spill. At this time last year, the bay already held hundreds or thousands of surf scoters and scaups. I didn't see any scoters or scaups at all today.
