My little backyard in the Refugio Valley area of Hercules now sports two White-crowned Sparrows and two Golden-crowned Sparrows. Both GC's arrived on Sunday, 10/5. Today I noticed a local Wrentit as it popped out from the nearby underbrush and jumped onto the hanging suet basket. It quickly gulped a couple chunks of peanut suet and then, long tail flitting, slipped back in to the underbrush. This is the first time I have witnessed a Wrentit eating from a suet basket (or any feeder for that matter!). Is it common behavior and I have just never noticed before?
