I surveyed Lake Temescal in Oakland twice today, looking for Bob Battigan's Palm Warbler in all available fennel patches without luck. From 7:30-8:30 AM, and from 5:30-6:15 PM, I found the lake unbirdy. It was foggy this morning, and the only warbler around was an excited Orange-crowned. Two Ruddy Ducks returned to the lake this week to accompany the Amer. Coots.

This afternoon, things turned to sparrows. The first of season White-crown and Golden-crowned occurred, but as Phila noted, only one of each was seen. Not a warbler in sight.

The large flock of Brewer's and Red-winged Blackbirds continue along the tules on the north shore.
