After Denise refound the Summer Tanager a few days ago in the Valle Vista
area in the walnuts near where the trail crosses the bridge, I made my 4th
attempt to spot this bird. This time I was rewarded and spotted the
Summer Tanager continuously between 10:10 AM and 10:50 AM (9/2/08) in six
different walnut trees, 5 of the trees were just west of the bridge and
one tree was just east of the bridge. The tanager spent 75% of the time
in the 2 walnuts adjacent to the west side of the road, between the bridge
and the gate. I took several photos of this bird. At 11:30, I returned
to this area with my GPS logger and refound the tanager in the same 2
walnut trees just northwest of the bridge and took 4 more photos that were
GPS tagged and time dated. (I can use this data to log each photo with
Google maps). After 10 minutes of watching this bird and dodging 4
pick-up trucks that opened and closed the loud metal gate (EBay Parks was
working in this area), the 4th truck finally spooked the tanager).
