Both this morning (Wed, July 23) and last Tues (July 15), a Western
Bluebird family was hanging out in the main picnic area at Pt Pinole
Regional Shoreline in Richmond. I only report this because I see
that the CC County breeding bird atlas does not show nesting in this
    square ( http://www.flyingemu.com/ccosta/webl.html ).

Today, I saw at least an adult male, adult female, and 4 spotty
juveniles. They were seen mostly near the north end of the picnic
area near the volleyball? nets and later at the south end, closer to
the bridge over the railroad tracks. One of the juveniles was seen a
quarter-mile away in eucalyptus near the junction of the Giant
Station Trail and Cook's Point Trail. Either this was a lost toddler
or (more intriguingly) may represent a second family.

    Other notes:

Returning shorebirds have included 160 Sanderlings (alternate
plumage), 1 Black-bellied Plover, about 10 Semipalmated Plovers,
    about 20 Western Sandpipers.

2 Osprey hunting near the pier area.

There appears to be a dead Barn Owl in the first of the 2 palm trees
    in the picnic area.

    Good birding,
