Yesterday at Middle Harbor Park in Oakland we saw all four of the
local tern species that we see commonly in this area. We saw three
Elegant Terns, one Forster's, five Caspian, and at least 20 Least
Terns fishing and roosting on sandbars in the bay in front of the
    park.

For those who haven't been to this little known park, it has stunning
views of San Francisco and is just teeming with shorebirds right now.
Well worth a visit. To get there, take seventh avenue west to almost
the end. The park is well marked. You need to pass through some less
than stellar neighborhoods to get there - but the park is very nice
    and feels safe.
