    Birders,

I have received three private emails about my report of the debilitated
Common Murre that I saw at the Albany Bulb last Saturday. I am posting this to
assure everyone that: (1) YES, I do know that there are bird rescue agencies,
as I have rescued and taken birds to them in the past, and (2) NO, I could
not reach this bird to rescue it. The bird was on an island at high tide. I
had no idea how deep or yielding the mud might be, had I chosen to take off my
shoes and roll up my pants to wade across. I was carrying a scope. I had
nothing to carry the bird in, even if I had decided to risk wading to the
island. I had family obligations that evening and the following day, so I was
not able to return at a later time to see if I could affect a rescue. I hope
    that answers everyone's questions.
