    Hi all,
Congratulations to Bob as this is a truly exciting
record for Contra Costa County. I don't have the
county notebooks handy but I would venture to guess
that the species hasn't been detected in the county in
at least 15 years and there aren't more than about 5
or 6 records ever. Interestingly enough, there is a
breeding record from Alameda County. In 1938 an egg
set was collected by H.W. Carriger and Leroy Jensen at
    Cedar Mountain near Mines Rd.
The date of this sighting is strongly suggestive of
breeding somewhere in the area but could just as
easily be in nearby Alameda County.
    Good birding,
    Steve Glover
