School is out, and so are summer camp birders and I. On Tuesday at the
Albany mudflats, we found a female Northern Pintail wallowing around,
and many oversummering Clark's Grebes. Wednesday brought a female type
Hooded Oriole along the Seaview Trail near the Big Springs Trail in
Tilden. Thursday at the Berkeley Marina was especially rich, with a
first summer Pacific Loon in the harbor, nestling Pelagic Cormorants on
the breakwater wall, a pair of Northern Harriers over the meadow, a
female Red Phalarope still in alternate plumage at Brickyard Beach, at
least two Barn Owls in the box mentioned by Bob Power, and a single Tree
Swallow behind the Seabreeze Market, a species we don't usually see in
    June along the waterfront.
