    Hi E. B. Birders,

This morning I hiked the Black Point Trail out of
Mitchell Canyon, Mount Diablo State Park. The loop was
relatively active with the expected chaparral species,
such as Lazuli Buntings, California Thrashers, and
numerous Sage Sparrows (at least 10), but no
vocalizations or sightings of Black-chinned Sparrow.

This may be one of those years with fewer
Black-chinned Sparrows, or just poor timing on my
part. This is my forth attempt at trying to locate
Black-chinned Sparrow on Mount Diablo this year. If
anyone has luck finding this species in Contra Costa
this spring or summer, please let me know.

The highlight was only picking up three ticks on the
entire 4.8 mile Black Point Trail loop!

    All the Best Birding,
