On Saturday, we went on a bikes-and-birds outing with East Bay Regional Parks.

The highlight of the trip was the egret rookery, home to both snowy and great egrets families.

The way that we found it was to go to the shopping center on the corner of Island and Mecartney, and facing the shopping center go to the far left corner and then follow the path to the water. Turn left, and proceed along the path until you hear the commotion.

Photos are on my flickr account, as are photos of some pure white doves that were pecking their way along the barnacle encrusted shoreline under the bridge connecting Alameda and Bay Farm Island. Very odd, indeed. Had they escaped from a wedding? Or did they disappear into a magician's handkerchief, never to be seen again?
