Three Great-tailed Grackles were in a pine tree near the wooden railing at
the large natural pond in Walnut Creek's Heather Farm Park this morning.
Two of them were later in a tree on the island. They make a lot of noise.

The City had some workers in a small boat repairing one of the oxidation
fountains in the cement pond, but that did not stop 4 species of swallows
from flying over the pond. They were Cliff, Northern Rough-winged,
    Violet-green and Barn Swallows.

A Spotted Sandpiper flew over the large pond briefly, but I don't know where
    it went.

Finally, both Nuttall's Woodpecker nests had parents bringing food to the
young. The nest near the bottom of the big hill had a chick which seemed to
show great interest in the world beyond that cavity, but it is not quite
ready to make the big jump.

The nest in the big oak about halfway along the west side of the large pond
has young which are big enough that the adults no longer climb inside to
    feed them.
