    Hi E. B. Birders,

This morning at 7:40 am, I went to Valle Vista Staging
Area in Moraga to scout out the area for a class I'm
leading on Saturday. While finishing my tea before
the walk, I watched a pair of Wood Ducks fly directly
in front of me as I sat in my car. The male landed on
top of the sign-in booth, and the female landed on the
small tree nearby. They stayed for about two minutes,
then flew off into the woodland to the west.

When I started hiking, I hear the ascending buzzy call
of the male Wood Duck coming from across the parking
lot. They had returned, and were flying around the old
Monterey pines which separate the parking lot from
Canyon Road. The female investigated four different
locations, the male following behind, about 20 feet
up. Eventually they flew off, heading toward Upper
    San Leandro Reservoir.

I wish them luck finding just the right nest cavity!

Ah, if only that would they would repeat this behavior
    for my class on Saturday!

    All the Best Birding,
