The winter residents are leaving in droves, but the Eared Grebes and
Horned Grebes are putting on their party clothes before they go. This
afternoon there were lots of them - sometimes half a dozen together -
between the Embarcadero end of the lake and the floats, especially along
the Lakeshore side. Some were just beginning to turn, but some had the
whole copper-and-steel-blue suit and the gold fans or bars by their
    ruby-red eyes.

The Ruddy Ducks are also turning, but look almost drab beside these
floating jewels. And you can see Pied-Billed Grebes with genuinely pied
    bills, too.
