    Phila and all,
Just for everyone's information, the notebooks I
maintain for the East Bay include numerous historical
records of Warbling Vireos by about this date
(3/19)and the species can already be common before
April. For example, on March 31, 1996 I had no less
than 15 singing males in a 1.57 mile stretch of
Pinehurst Road, all presumably territorial males. On
    April 1, 1995 I had 20 singing males on a 2.7 mile
    stretch of that same road.
As to the grosbeak, I believe that the early arrivals
are often in the very last few days of March but they
don't arrive in any numbers in April.
