After a two window killed birds at Watershed Headquarters in Orinda, we
installed raptor silhouettes on some windows and leaf silhouettes on
    others.
It isn't much, just enough to show them it isn't a forest through-way.
Both methods worked as we have had no other window kills in five years

David Sibley - yes, THAT David Sibley - recently discovered that you can

almost totally eliminate window strikes by cross-hatching the window
with a yellow hiliter. Virtually invisible to humans, the marks radiate
strongly in ultraviolet and the birds no longer react to the window as
    open space.
