Some highlights of birding with Vern Bothwell around Livermore today, March 15:

The apparent first-year Glaucous Gull reported by Kathy Robertson on March 6, at Frick Lake on Laughlin Road, at about 8:30 a.m. I can't positively rule out a bleached gull of some sort, based on my limited observation of this gull. It was large, kind of a mottled white, with white primaries and a bicolored bill, pale pinkish -gray at the base.

A Marbled Godwit at Frick Lake, at about 8:30 a.m. The last time I saw one in the Livermore Valley was July 7, 2002, at Shadow Cliffs, and before that, March 11, 1996 at Frick Lake.

The Lewis Woodpecker previously reported by Bob Power, Dave Quady and Steve Huckabone, at Mines Road m.p. 4.3 at about 1:45 p.m., on top of a telephone pole, and in a Sycamore tree east of Mines Road.

A male Phainopepla at Mines Road m.p.4.6, just before the big bridge.
