Last Monday Fred Safier told me about Cliff Swallows near Heather Farm Park
in Walnut Creek, but this morning was the first time I saw them for myself.
They are flying from under the bridge over the creek on the north side of
the 7 Hills School. From the north entrance of the park at the Contra Costa
Canal Bicycle Trail, walk west along the trail about one-quarter of a mile,
maybe a little more. This is a traditional nesting site for these birds.
This entrance is for foot and bicycle traffic only. If driving, enter from
Ygnacio Valley Road and drive to the farthest parking lot and park in the
farthest space to be closest to the Contra Costa Canal. Enter the lot to
the right at the point that the road makes a sharp left turn.

Fred also had one N. Rough-winged Swallow flying in his group. This morning
he had a single Barn Swallow flying near the footbridge over the canal at
the north end of Heather Farm Park. I did not see either of these birds.
