    Hi Birders--

My friend Nancy Teater from Palo Alto and I went to Garin and Coyote
Hills, enjoying a pleasant and fruitful day, and also striving to nudge
my Alameda Big Year list into the 140s. We had 50-plus species,
    including some surprises:

House Wren -- Slightly north of the Ranch Side picnic area at Garin and
east of the path, perched and singing in a coyote bush, giving us a
    really good look.

Western Kingbird -- Hawking insects east of the Pioneer/Cattlemens
picnic areas at Garin, working the grassy hillside that slopes upward
    beyond the fence.

Rufous Hummingbird -- A stunning male feeding in a pineapple sage at
the Coyote Hills butterfly garden. It paused on a branch long enough
for us to ID him. A nice bonus late in the afternoon.
