This afternoon, 2/29/08 there was a Burrowing Owl, 6
Cackling Geese, and at least 36 Long-billed Curlews in
the flooded fields along Cushing Parkway in Fremont.
This area is north of the Lam Research Campus and is
known as the Warm Springs Unit of Don Edwards NWR. The
area is comprised of vernal pools on both sides of
Cushing Parkway just south of Auto Mall Parkway in
Fremont. Also present were over 50 Canada Geese, and
several Mallards, American Wigeon, Northern Shoveler,
    and 4 American Avocet.

The Long-billed Curlews were on both sides of the road
in large groups actively feeding in the short grass.
