    Hi E. B. Birders,

This morning at Carquinez Regional Shoreline we saw an
adult male Long-tailed Duck with about ten Surf
Scoters. The lighting was great, and the duck stayed
at the surface most of the time. We were also able
to take note of his plumage and flight patterns as he
    flew short distances.

    >From Martinez, drive west on Scenic Drive past Nejedly
Staging Area and gate, to the area where the road is
permanently closed.? Park and walk west along the
eroding road beyond the gate to the overlook near a
slide area where there are open views of Carquinez
Strait. The L.T. Duck was directly north, about half
way across the strait. A scope was needed to see the
duck well at this distance. Later, as we walked back
to our cars, we saw the L.T. Duck under the nearby
    industrial pier.

This is the area where Barrow's Goldeneyes often can
be found, but we did not see them today.
