After reviewing the current 2008 Alameda County Big
Year list for "missing" birds that I might actually
find, I went in search of two: common moorhen and
great horned owl. Common moorhens can sometimes be
seen in the ponds along Thornton Avenue across from
the entrance to Don Edwards NWR and at Coyote Hills
RP, and Rich Nicholson and I saw a GHO at Coyote Hills
just before the 12/17 CBC. However, visits both
yesterday and the day before failed to turn up either
    species.

I did see two LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES, one at the entrance
to the No Name Trail and one farther along the trail.
The SNOW GOOSE was still with the Canada geese when I
entered the park around 2, but the flock had scattered
and the white goose was gone when I left around 3:30.
    A pair of NORTHERN HARRIERS
