Great (but chilly!) birding this morning with leaders
Hilary and Ruth at Golden Gate Audubon's monthly Lake
Merritt walk. Around 10 a.m., we watched park workers
feeding a large group of swirling, diving (and biting
at each other) ducks next to the Nature Center, mostly
GREATER and LESSER SCAUPS, CANVASBACKS, MALLARDS and
COOTS. In the mix were the (formerly mysterious)
female REDHEAD, which I've shared photos of before, as
well as the TUFTED DUCK and a single RING-NECKED DUCK.
We did not see the long-tailed duck. In a very tall,
bare tree next to the marble fountain, Hilary's eagle
eyes found the RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER. Captioned
photos are at the following link (position the picture
slightly high on your screen and the captions will
    show).
