This morning at Garin/Dry Creek, I saw a burrowing owl
in the bowl just north of the High Ridge Loop/Gossip
Rock trail junction. There was a large colony of
burrowing owls at this location last winter, so
perhaps they are returning. Just south of the trail
junction, I saw two golden eagles sitting together on
    a rock enjoying the sunshine.

There are currently a lot of ground squirrels in the
general area of the burrowing owl colony. However,
given the birds I saw today(the owl, eagles, red
tails, kestrels, kites, red shoulder hawks, and an
accipiter) plus the coyotes and bobcats that I have
seen on earlier visits, I'm not sure what the life
expectancy of the ground squirrels will be.

They are still working on the holes of the new golf
course directly above the High Ridge Loop (the holes
were supposed to be open by now, but they are not.)
I'm not sure what changes we will see once the golf
    course is finished.

    Sue
