I saw my first burrowing owl yesterday morning in Lime ridge open space -
Walnut Creek section. We entered using the Navaronne entrance off Treat blvd
past the canal trail. Follow Navaronne (south) down to the end and park to
enter open space. Almost directly ahead several hundreds of feet is an open
field where we spotted the owl. I was walking my dogs and they flushed the
owl from what appeared to be her nest. The burrowing owl flew about twenty
feet away and became invisible to the dogs. We were able to watch the owl
for several minutes. It was amazing to see how camouflaged the owl was in
both light and dark colored ground. Had the dogs not flushed the owl, we
    would have missed it.

Last week I saw a pair of Northern Flickers sitting on a fence in the
northern section of Lime ridge open space in Concord. Enter by Dog Park on
Via Las Montanas, go up big hill, and follow around to the left. Flickers
    were up in ridge area.
