On May 24 a pair of Hooded Orioles showed up at our hummingbird
feeders. We immediately set up our oriole feeder and both birds
continued to come to it. On about June 13 the female no longer
continued to show up, but the male was a regular feeder. We
speculated on her absence and dearly hoped that she was incubating
eggs, and that she had not met her demise. On June 27 both birds
appeared at the same time on opposite sides of the feeder. (That
happened to be our 43rd wedding anniversary, and needless to say it
made the day seem even more special.) To our absolute delight, on
July 18 both adults showed up with two juveniles and the male has
continued to appear regularly with both juveniles. We are hoping
that perhaps the female is incubating another clutch of eggs.
Occasionally, during this time two breeding plumaged males showed up
at the feeder and we are not sure of that arrangement. Any thoughts
on this behavior, please respond privately. The presence of the
orioles has certainly made this summer's backyard birding one that we
    will long remember.

    Good birding,
      Paul and Nancy Schorr, Antioch
