Though I have no answer, I have a question.

There has been an aggressive program to spray non-native thistles in 
Wildcat Canyon for the last few years. I have no problem with that in 
principle.

But what happens to the goldfinches who feed on the thistles? Do they 
"know" better than to take seed from them once they are sprayed with 
the blue gunk?
