I've never posted to this group, although I do enjoy reading what everyone else writes.

Today we were out on the Contra Costa Canal Trail, when I spotted a Western Scrub Jay, apparently trying to make a meal of the contents of a bushtit nest. The whole community of bushtits (it takes a village to raise a child, if you are a bushtit) was making a lot of noise, but the jay seemed undeterred. I suspect that I may have inadvertently scared off the jay.

The nest is in an oak tree along the brutal steep hill between the community center and the Canal Trail proper.

    (Hope I did this right!)
