    Dark-eyed juncos nest pretty commonly in the hills and in many places in the 
    "upper flats," as well (such as the U.C. Berkeley campus).  I have seen them 
    recently in Martin Luther King Park in downtown Berkeley, and also from time 
    to time they have come to the feeders in our south Berkeley backyard (though 
    far less often than in winter).  So I guess that yes, indeed, some of them 
    are around all year.  I do think there are more of them in the flats this 
    year than in previous years.
