    Greetings EBB'ers,

Yesterday was the 1st (of 2) Field Trips for the 5th Annual Return of the
(Cliff) Swallows to Chabot College Festival, in Hayward, southern Alameda
County. After viewing several of the 610 NESTS of Cliff Swallows on campus this
year (some with nesting House Sparrows) the next stop was in a new (near
shoreline) residential tract, Eden Shores. Here the Barn Swallows were nesting
under a covered monitor bridge that crosses the moat (wildlife barrier to control
dogs/cats from invading the salt water marshes). Many fledglings and
food-finding parents gave great views. As I was leaving I put my bins on two
telephone wire birds; and next to a Mourning Dove was a Eurasian Collared-Dove!
They dropped out of sight just before my getting a record picture. This may be
the 2nd location in ALA Co after the "official" sighting at Murrieta's
Winery, Livermore, ALA Co. 12 August 2006 by Art Edwards and George Bing.

This spot is reached off Hesperian Blvd., Hayward, just south of the
Industrial Blvd. intersection which crosses Hwy 880 (or take Tennyson Ave. exit to
Hesperian Blvd.). Take Eden Shores Blvd. over the entrance bridge to turning
circle (counter clockwise); at first Rd. take Dune Circle to nearest home and
park on roadside - address=2883 Dune Circle.

    Happy hunting and good luck,

    Phil E.Gordon
