Visited Mitchell Canyon Saturday (4/7) between 9 to 1:00:
    Highlights:
*Warbler updates--still early for most spring migrants:
       *Yellow-rumps and Orange-crowns very abundant.
*Wilson's and Townsend's spotted along Red Rd.
    *Winter Sparrows still present:
Lincoln's, Fox (sooty), Golden and White-crowned.
Sage Sparrow spotted along Red Rd. perched on barbed wire.
    * Flycatchers
2 Pac.-slope seen but none heard
      Black Phoebe
(No Ash-throated, Hammond's or Wood-pewee seen or heard)
Black-headed Grosbeaks heard just beyond Red rd. junction.
Hermit Thrush, Bullock's Oriole, White-breasted Nuthatch at staging area
    Anna's only hummer spotted

    41 species for the morning.

    Notes:
    $3 entrance fee
Gate doesn't open until 8:00--if you arrive early, some good birding near
    gate.
Parking lot closed on morning of Earth day, April 21 until 1:00.
Red road is path heading off Mitchell Canyon, about 1/2 mile from
trailhead. Trail is an ecotone with chaparral on the south slope, woodland
on the north slope plus riparian.
Good wildflowers: Chinese Houses, lupines (L. albifrons), Narrow-leaf Bush
Sunflower(Ericameia linearifolia), Clematis, Ceanothus, Blue Dicks, Wall
    Flowers, Paint Brushes--all in bloom.

Planning my next visit on Monday the 16th. Email me if you're interested.

    Good Birding,
    Ted
