After a kind, private message from Phila Rogers about
my out-of-area breeding record for a Fox sparrow, I am
rethinking my interpretation of my sighting.

I observed the bird working a small area, hidden and
elevated behind a clump of ferns. He appeared to be
making a hollow, and since they are ground nesters,
and 'tis the season, I assumed that it was for nesting
purposes. I did not observe him bringing in nesting
material, nor feeding, but in fact he could have been
    working the ground for food.

I do not keep written records of the area, but I seem
to recall seeing these guys at Huck year round, and
their song, which I played this am, sounds familiar as
    well.

However, due to the unusual nature of this record, I
retract my report, and will investigate further.

    My apologies for any confusion.
    Debbie Viess
