    At my home in south Berkeley the white-crowned and golden-crowned sparrows left three days, more or less, earlier than last year.  On Monday, however, I was surprised to awaken to the sweet sound of "Poor Sam Pea-body-Pea-body," a singing White-throated sparrow.  Just like last year, this bird became the final zonotrichea remaining in our yard.  Now he's apparently left, as well.
    
    And today as I walked my dog at Albany Beach I saw a pair of Least terns feeding just offshore, the first Leasts I've seen there in months.
