Today (Monday) several friends and I went to Lake Merritt to look for  
the Tufted Duck that has been reported there in recent weeks.   
Nothing could have been easier!  The Tufted Duck paddled in the  
company of mostly Greater Scaup and at times was obligingly no more  
than a few feet from where we stood, providing incomparable views.   
We saw only two females among the dozens of male scaup.
