Yesterday morning about 10:30 I saw a Ferruginous Hawk in the field west
of Byron Hot Springs Road where the road curves right. It was sunny so
no short-eared owls around, just a harrier couple and a redtail and the
usual kites. I had better luck at Los Vaqueros reservoir where I saw
several redtails and ospreys and one golden eagle. There are many ground
squirrels there so no surprise the golden eagles would nest in the hills
nearby. On the way to the above I drove past the windmills on Mountain
House Road where a Ferruginous Hawk made several sweeping mid-air laps.
The windmills were not moving so no danger.
