My friend, Peter, is an engineer with Amtrak and is not a birder, but he
sent me the following message recently. He would have been returning with
the train from Sacramento at this time.

"I've been meaning to tell you that I saw a burrowing owl standing on the
rail down by the EBMUD sewage treatment plant in Emeryville about a month
ago, at around 9 or 11 pm."
