Hiking in Joaquin Miller Park this morning, I watched a bird I first
thought was a Cal Towhee hopping around a fallen log. All brown, check -
but no orange under the tail and no marks at all around the face. And it
moved more like a wren - holding its tail straight up part of the time.
(But definitely not a wren; there was a Bewick's Wren in the same spot,
    and they weren't even cousins.)

    Any ideas?
